About the Lab
The Transplant and Stem Cell Immunobiology (TSI) Laboratory, headed by Prof. Sonja Schrepfer, is committed to advancing research in the areas of stem cell biology, transplant immunology, and cardiovascular disease. These research areas together focus a wide lens on how the immune system can affect human health. Our investigations emphasize drug discovery, developing preventative medical techniques, and creating cutting-edge transplant technologies to better understand and combat the progression of human diseases.
A few of our current research areas include: generating an “off-the-shelf” stem cell line for use in any patient without triggering transplant rejection, developing methods that reduce the progression of restenosis, advancing tissue bioengineering techniques, and finding novel ways of visualizing and avoiding immune reactivity. Our research emphasizes basic science discovery with potential downstream medical applications.
